Great idea moving the library to the mall. Kills two birds with one stone. Now if we can sell the old library to the USPS for the big bucks, they can tear it down and create the much needed parking.

It has been said that the airport helped close the deal that brought Foster Farms to town, and again helped when they had to decide which of two plants to close. To me, it’s much more of an economic development asset than a transportation tool. We’ve been close on airport-related manufacturers locating adjacent to the airport to help with their operations…no hits yet, though.

I fail to see what economic value the airport provides Kelso or the region. It will never become a hub for commercial carriers. If the right opportunity comes along to attract an industrial job creator. go for it.

Being adjacent to I-5 and with such high visibility, it’s imperative that it be visually attractive in order to draw customers to the retail establishments. Also, with the anticipated heavy pedestrian traffic within the development, not having curbs, gutters and sidewalks would be a safety concern.

While I can sympathize with the developer, I don’t think we should compromise our development standards. Kelso has waited almost thirty years for this development and we can afford to wait a bit longer to get it right.
The industrial park in Kelso waived these requirerments for almost identical reasons many years ago and have regretted that decision ever since.
